Pollinators on the farm
Hoch Orchard and Gardens invites you for a meal on the farm. Our event discussion will focus on Pollinators and their role on the farm. The evening will begin with a presentation from Harry Hoch on the role pollinators play and how we provide a healthy habitat for them. After a taste of homemade sweet or hard cider we will take a short walk to the experimental pollinator plot. This plot was designed by the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation. There are 22 native wild flowers seeded into this plot.
After a walk we will have dinner in the Packing House.
Tentative menu:
- Fresh ham from Hoch pastured pork baked with honey glaze
- New Potatoes
- Tomato salad
- Greens
- Roasted eggplant
- Cornbread with honey butter
After dinner, Dr Borsari will discuss the current status of wild bees, honey bees, and other native pollinators. After Dr Borsari’s presentation we will have a round table discussion with input from all our guests. The topic of discussion will be “what can we do to stop the decline of native pollinators and honey bees”.
