Apples, berries, vegetables and wine grapes

Chickens are in the freezer.
We are really diversifying now! We raised a few hundred range-chickens for the Southeast Minnesota Food Network this summer. . We kept the last batch for sales from the farm. Our youngest daughter Missy has been raising chickens and producing eggs for the family for three years now. This year she expanded her chicken farm into meat birds with some help from her dad.
Our chickens were raised here on the orchard in three separate batches starting in April. We got day old chicks in the mail and raised them under heat lamps till they were old enough to be let outside. They were fed grain that was free of antibiotics and growth hormones. They were also allowed to run outside, stretch their legs, and scratch for weeds and bugs like chickens are supposed to do!
Our birds were raised from eight to twelve weeks here on the farm, making dressed birds in the range of about four to seven pounds. The flavor of the meat is excellent. These medium sized birds are great for roasting, frying, stews, soups, or grilling! Try grilling a whole chicken on the Weber; it may be the best grilled meat you will ever eat!
Burt’s Hilltop Poultry in Utica Minnesota processed the birds. The facility is USDA certified and the meat is inspected. The birds are sealed in plastic, labeled with the weight, and frozen. Don’t worry; they were not butchered by crazy Harry chasing the chickens around with an axe! Harry is sticking to processing apples and leaving the butchering to the professionals.
You can get our frozen chicken directly from the farm or preorder by phone or email and pick up the birds at one of the LaCrosse area farmer’s markets. The price for these antibiotic and hormone free birds is $1.75 per pound.

Our produce is available for both wholesale and direct public sales.
